On the Day

With over 1000 participants and their craft needing to get into the water at Heritage Park, there needs to be some slick organisation in place to make things run smoothly. Here is some information so that you know what to expect on the day.

Program:

Here's a printable pdf version of the program which contains everything you need to know about Paddle day.

Road closures:

Some roads near Heritage Parks will be made one-way for the morning. They will be clearly signposted with traffic controllers present to guide you. The map shows the direction of the traffic flow.

Check-in:

  • If  you have registered online you still need to go to the registration desk to check-in and receive your wristband.
  • The registration desk will open at 7am.
  • Please go to the registration desk half an hour before your event start.
  • There is no parking at the check-in/registration area. This is a drop off zone only. Drop off your craft and then take your car elsewhere to park.

On-the-day registration:

If you have not already registered online you can still participate on the day. Allow a bit of extra time at the registration desk to sign up and pay. Entering the river:

  • All craft except dragon boats are to enter the water at the main boat ramp in Heritage Park.
  • Please follow the directions of the marshalls. They know what they are doing.
  • Ramp 2 is for dragon boats only. The dragon boats require room for manipulation and it makes it more difficult if there are other sundry craft trying to enter the water in competition with them.

The  Sails Motel Best Decorated Craft entrants:

  • The panel of judges will be on the media boat - thanks to Byron Bay Eco Cruises & Kayaks for the use of their boat.
  • The media boat will be located just upstream from the start line.
  • Pass your completed Best Decorated Craft slip to the judges so they know who they are judging.
  • Please circle the media boat to give the judges time to consider your entry. They will give you a wave when they are finished.

Finish at Brunswick Heads:

  • The finish is marked by the Finish banner on the footbridge, on the beach side of the river.
  • For those in the Challenge Events - the judges and timers will be standing on the footbridge.
  • Please do not use the small beach near the road bridge. It is fragile and will not cope with extra traffic.

Craft minding at end of Paddle:

  • 1st Brunswick Heads Scouts will be providing a craft minding service at the Scout Hall, the point at which craft leave the water.
  • Please bring a gold coin donation for the scouts.
  • This service allows participants to leave their craft while they return to Mullum in the shuttle bus to retrieve their vehicle.
  • The craft minding will operate from the time of the first participant finishing until 2:30pm.
  • The scouts and their parents will provide all care but no responsibility for the craft.

Timing for Challenge events:
