Terrace Fun and Awards
There will be fun at the soundshell at Terrace Park on the river in Bruns. Paddlers can relax and refresh themselves after their paddle while waiting for the awards presentation and raffle draws. There is plenty to do for non-participants while they wait for friends and family who are paddling - expos, food stalls, jumping castle, face painting, balloon art, people-watching and lots more. There will be non-stop music during this time, performed by talented local artists who very kindly donate their time free for the day. Also, don't forget the Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health Centre Duck Race.
Presentations, Draws, Prizes
At around 12:10pm, after the official opening, the presentations will be made to the winners of the SUP and kayak challenges. Following this, the best decorated craft and decorated dragon boat winners will be announced. Then comes the raffle and participants draw. Great prizes to be won.

Decorated Dragon Boats
In 2016 we had seven dragon boats involved in the Paddle. It's too early to say how many will paddle in 2017. The dragon boats are not racing but are using the Bruns River for training purposes. For the first time we included a Decorated Dragon Boat award in 2016. The colourful Dragon Boats arrived at Terrace Park as a flotilla, ready for judging.
Live Music Program
Join us at the Soundshell for our live music program which runs from 10 am until 2pm.
A series of local artists, from school kids to professional artists, generously donate their time to help make Terrace Park a happy, fun place to be while you refresh yourselves as you wait for the presentations. We are very grateful for their time, talent and energy.
A full program will be available here once artists and times have been confirmed.
Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health Centre Duck Race
Buy your number for a rubber duck to compete in the annual duck race from the road bridge to the footbridge in Bruns. Tickets are $5 and are available from the three Paddle beneficiary groups: Brunswick Marine Rescue, Surf Life Saving Club and Visitor Centre - until sold out.
Three hundred numbered ducks are thrown off one bridge and float with the current until they get to the other bridge.
It's suprising to see how the ducks sort themselves out and a select few separate from the pack. It's quite a spectacle - there is much excitement and cheering as the Nippers paddle nearby to determine the winning duck.
Prizes for the 2017 duck race:
- HOLIDAY PACK – 2 nights Brunswick River Inn ($298) + Byron Bay Eco Cruise for 4 ($200) + $50 Milk Bar meal + $50 vouchers from Brunswick Surf + Coles + Crystal Castle - Total value $698
- Byron Bay Eco Cruise & Kayaks private tour for 12 people - Total value $540
- PAMPER PACK – Brunswick Heads Massage ($110) + Go Sea Kayak Tour ($140) + Gym on the Run fitness sessions ($150)+ Sanctum Pack ($30) - Total value $430
Community food stalls
Each of the three Paddle beneficiary groups will operate a food and drink stall at Heritage Park, concentrating on different types of food. This is also where you can buy raffle tickets or duck race tickets.
Activities for the Kids
To add to the fun in Terraace park we have a jumping castle for under twelves. What kid does not enjoy a jumping castle?
Added to this we have free face painting sponsored by Byron Shire Children's Counselling. your little angels can transform into a fairy or Spiderman in front of your eyes.
There is an information tent where you can find out anything you need to know about the Paddle. It's also the centre for lost property and sales of t-shirts ($20) and stickers ($2). Very importantly, particpants need to visit the information tent to put their wristband into the box so that they are part of the draw for the participants prizes.
